Remains of climbers missing since 1959 found on volcano

The mummified remains of two climbers have been discovered near the peak of Pico de Orizaba in Mexico and are thought to be the remains of climbers who disappeared in an avalanche in 1959.

Rescuers say they believe a third body is still hidden under the snow but they're encountering severe difficulties - toxic gases are released during digging. Bringing the remains back down the volcano is also proving problematic, due to their fragile nature and the tough terrain. The names and nationalities of the climbers have not been released yet.

Luis Espinoza, 78, was one of the 1959 team who was caught in the avalanche but managed to dig himself out of the ice and snow and to reach safety...

After studying photographs of one of the bodies on the mountain he said he was confident that they were those of two of his missing friends.
