Responding to Visitor Messages

When responding to a visitor message, I go to the WSers's profile page and leave a visitor message there.

It was only when I went back to leave another message that I saw they had not been ignoring me after all. They had responded on their page.

What's the right way to correspond with the visitor messages?

I did let these members know that I'd been waiting for a response on my profile but also said I didn't know whether what I was doing was right.

What do you do?

If you hit "view conversation" on their message to you,it will automagically take you to a text box for posting on their profile.
