Initial reports said that exams were taking place inside the engineering building. No confirmation that was true.

He graduated in the mid 90s and he says it was such a lovely place to spend four years. Obviously in this country, no place is immune to gun violence, Those poor students (and staff), finishing up finals and getting ready to head home for winter break. I hope they find the shooter soon and bring him to justice.

Brown University officials said multiple final exams were scheduled to be underway at the Barus and Holley building at the time of the shooting. “We are working immediately to determine who was in the building at the time of the shooting,” the university said.

I have since read that there were students taking finals today, presumably for Saturday classes which some schools do have.

Because CNN has been giving few details, I get the impression that this is going to be a horrible situation. Now, to read the rest of the thread.

Making the entire campus affected - what student could concentrate properly now? So selfish, cruel.

My boyfriend's alma mater and he's in complete shock right now. Just awful.

Unfortunately, I understand. I was a student at the University of Iowa when this happened in 1991, and had taken physics the previous semester. My professor and lab instructor were not shot, but I did recognize the three professors who died. There's a book about it called "Deadly Scholarship" but it's not very good.

Completely agree. This is so horrible. I’m actually at my parents house in RI right now and the local news broke in to the Army/Navy game. My cousin goes to Brown. Kind of freaked out - no news about him.

LE had confrontation with person near site but wasn't shooter.
