Richard Callaghan, famed coach of Olympians such as Tara Lipinski and Todd Eldredge, was banned for life from figure skating Wednesday by the sport's governing organizations due to sexual misconduct allegations.

Callaghan was declared permanently ineligible Wednesday by the U.S. Center for Safesport, the federally recognized watchdog of the U.S. Olympics community, with the causes listed on its website as "physical misconduct," "emotional misconduct" and "sexual misconduct involving minor."...

Yes, Richard Callahan was coaching at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Twp. DH and I once saw Todd Eldridge sitting at the bar at a popular local restaurant when he was training here. Tara Lipinski lived in a Troy apartment with her mom and was known to frequent Somerset Collection (major mall in Troy). One day when I was at Somerset, there was a crowd of people outside Sephora, and I later learned that Tara had been in the store and was peppered for autographs when she left. Tara and her mom also attended Mass at Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak.
