''Case of man murdered 18 years ago remains unsolvedBy Ron Fanfair, Toronto Police Service Published: 6 a.m. February 16, 2018The family of a murdered Toronto man is still seeking justice, 18 years later. On Monday, January 31, 2000, at around 11.51 p.m., officers on patrol in the area of 10 Yorkwoods Gate observed a motor vehicle on the grass boulevard and sidewalk. It was on the south side of the street with the motor running. The vehicle was stopped against a chain link fence and a man was slumped over in the driver’s seat. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. It was later determined he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.Richard McEachern was 38 at the time of his death and a resident of the area in which he was killed. He was employed in the car detailing industry.“At the time, he was driving a distinct vehicle, a 1977 Pontiac Parisienne, black with a yellow dealer’s licence plate on the back and a homemade licence plate on the front that said, ‘Black Beauty’,” said D/Sgt. Stacy Gallant. “That evening, he had left work about an hour before his death and, at about 11.30 p.m., he contacted his wife on a cell phone and said he had almost arrived where he was going.”Gallant said the deceased was also seen on a security camera at a Mac’s Milk convenience store at the corner of Yorkwoods Gate and Jane St.“At this same time, he was purchasing what appeared to be cigarettes,” said Gallant. “A witness came forward who was walking in the area at the time of the shooting and said they heard a single gunshot and observed three men running south across Yorkwoods Gate, from the parking lot, where the deceased’s vehicle was parked.”The men were described as black, early 20s, wearing dark baggy clothing.Gallant said investigators would like to speak to them as they may be witnesses to the fatal shooting.“Since the night of the murder, none of these individuals has been identified or has come forward to provide information,” he said. “
