RIP Bob Guccione, you helped me learn biology. I can't thank you enough for that!

Oh I have my sins to account for, lol, but I didn't play a major role in spreading pornography into the mainstream, and I think that's a good thing. I'll say the same thing when Hefner Larry Flynt or any of the others pass, I am sure. They contributed nothing except degradation of women.

Thanks to those who said such nice things about me! :blowkiss:

You are such a sweetheart and one of the best poster's here. Thank you for being there for me Dark Knight. How this even started, I do not know. But, I love your response.

Sorry, but I do not feel Dark Knight is passing judgement or acting holier than thou, he is stating a fact--Guccione, though (at one time) wealthy, was not exactly a pillar of society.

This is a guy who almost became a priest, but then turned to pornography. He deserted his first wife and family to pursue a career as an artist in Europe. He knowingly took photographs of an underage Tracy Lord. He did not have good relations with his own family. He lived a decadent lifestyle but foreclosed on his home. He was not a respectable guy. Why isn't anyone talking about how he exploited, objectified, and degraded women? They were merely pawns for his fame and wealth. I feel for his family at his passing, but the guy was a pig. No judgement--pure fact.

My God will forgive the both of you :)

I don't think anyone would argue with you about Guccione's lifestyle. But, if someone in my family died (and there are some pigs in my family) and a person responded to the news by saying "good riddance" I would be highly offended. Maybe it wasn't meant to sound as if someone's death was a cause for celebration but that's how it seemed to me.

Didn't Ted Bundy say something like.........don't burn Catcher in the Rye, burn Hustler.

Anyway, RIP in peace......no one can say you didn't have fun.

I'm not sure I like the comparison.

There are members of my family that, when they die, if someone said "good riddance" I wouldn't be the slightest bit offended, I'd understand. A spade is a spade, I don't care if they're related or not, and I understand why some people will be glad to see them gone.

You don't understand!! :furious: The happiest, and most educative, days of a 15 year old's life are spent with porn. :snooty:

And I'm not a sexual deviant because of it!!

His point was that porn had a negative effect on people, desensitizing etc.....
I get his point. I imagine that those predisposed to violence (sociopaths, psychopaths etc).......porn. certainly doesn't help.

And no- not everyone who looks at naked women are sex fiends........lol.

Fair enough. I think you're saying some people have no redeeming qualitites whatsoever and the rest of us should be glad they're dead so we don't have to suffer their presence in our more upstanding lives. I do think there is real evil in this world such as Hitler, Sadam Hussein and Jeffrey Dahmer and we are better off without them. But I also think evil such as that is extreme and rare and most people have some bit of good in them, no matter how small, and have a chance at redemption.

It isn't so much redeeming qualities as the effect they have had on society. You don't have to be extremely evil to have had a deleterious effect on society. (Even Dahmer got baptised, eventually.) And I feel porn producers have had a negative effect on society, and he was at the forefront of bringing it into the "mainstream." The members of my family that I could see people saying good riddance to are not Hitler or Saddam level of evil, but they have had such a negative effect on everyone and everything around them, I could understand some people not missing them when they are gone.

My beef is with violence. Movies portray gangsters, Tony Soprano and inner city gangsters, as cool. I'd much rather a kid see two people making passionate love than killing each other. Rape, torture, theft and other disgusting illegal things are portrayed in mainstream movies in theaters. JMO

It seems that in this social climate the only way to give people satisfaction at the end of the movie is to have the bad guy killed, and often killed painfully.

Unfortunately, I have become one of the people who like to see that happen too. In the comics like Batman and Superman I don't recall them killing the perps after catching them.
