''To join, they say it would cost him his life.
A North Carolina fraternity pledge died after being "violently assaulted and battered" during a hazing ritual led by the university president's own son in 2012, a newly filed lawsuit claims.
The family of Robert Eugene Tipton Jr., say High Point University officials knew of the fraternity's "extreme and outrageous conduct" but allowed it to carry on, resulting in his death, the Greensboro News & Record reported.
Tipton, 22, who was rushing Delta Sigma Phi, was found not breathing in an off-campus apartment on March 26.
An autopsy found that he died from a drug overdose -- specifically pain killers -- but it noted that his body was also found with abrasions on his head, neck, and torso.''
''A private investigation later commissioned by Tipton's mother argued that a concussion he sustained in the hazing ultimately led to his death by "aspiration of gastrointestinal contents," according to the News & Record''.
