Rojin Kabaiş was a 21-year-old university student studying in the Department of Child Development at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, located in eastern Turkey. She had previously enrolled in the Faculty of Theology at Dicle University but later decided to change her academic path. Originally from Diyarbakır, she was the sixth of eight siblings.
On the evening of September 27, 2024, she informed her friends that she planned to visit the Lake Van shoreline and subsequently left her dormitory. That was the last time she was seen alive. Following 18 days of intensive search efforts, her body was found on October 15 near the shoreline of Mollakasım, approximately 20 kilometers from where she was last seen.
The preliminary autopsy revealed no signs of physical trauma, assault, or struggle. However, a more detailed forensic analysis detected the presence of DNA belonging to two unidentified males on her body. No public statement has been made regarding the identity of these individuals or the context in which the DNA was found.
Her father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, publicly denied the possibility of suicide and continues to demand a full and transparent investigation. The distance between her last known location and where her body was discovered, along with the presence of unknown male DNA, has led to numerous unanswered questions and growing public concern.
