An England fan's family has appealed for help finding him after he went missing in Russia

An England fan who travelled to Russia to watch the World Cup but forgot his ticket has gone missing.

Douglas Moreton has not been seen since last Friday, a concerned relative wrote on social media.

A spokesperson for the British Embassy confirmed he had been reported missing and said it was in touch with the relevant authorities in Russia to try and establish his whereabouts.

Mr Moreton, aged in his late 50s to early 60s, was last seen in Samara where England played Sweden in the quarter-final.

In an online post, user missbiscuitblues said: "We are trying to get in contact with my uncle. He has been missing since Friday July 6.”

He was expected to catch a train back to Moscow, the relative said, adding they believed he had made the journey as his credit card had been used in the Russian capital.

They described him as around 5ft 5in tall, having a Bristol accent, wearing glasses and rarely being clean shaven.

“On 10 July at 14:24 Moscow time he departed for Moscow on the additional Samara-to-Moscow train, and definitely arrived in Moscow and got off at the Kazansky Railway Station,” a spokeswoman said.

She added that the fan's arrival in Moscow was confirmed by the video surveillance footage and his “further actions are unknown.”

A source said that the Moscow Police Department received a message from a Russian citizen, stating that the English fan, born in 1958, boarded a train from Samara to Moscow and after that all communications with him were lost.

Russia finds missing British soccer fan: agencies cite police

Russian police have found a British national reported missing by his relatives, Russian news agencies cited the interior ministry as saying on Thursday.

Russian news agencies said he had been found staying at a Moscow hotel.

The British embassy and the police were not immediately available for comment.
