.....The case looks strong with no known bail application, a solid witness list, and a forensic trail that’s likely hard to ignore. But finding Samantha matters just as much, if not more. It’s about emotional and moral resolution, and dignity for Sam and her family, and not just conviction and legal closure. The system can move forward without a body, but her family need her home.

Agreed. Good summary there.

Echo what Rocket says…the police would have excellent evidence, there is no one else involved, the prosecution witnesses are pretty solid, he had to be reminded at a directions hearing to provide alibis, and I don’t believe he was in that much of a drunken stupor when the incident occurred…over the limit likely…but not off his head to the level that others believe..holding out telling police where Sams body is his his last act of defiance and the only shred of power he has left IMHO.

Re phone and forensic testing. In the Mushroom murders, the defence pulled apart the prosecutions expert witnesses regarding the phone evidence. Guess we can expect that again here. Sorry can't link because I never want to look at the mushroom murders site again.

True…that’s their remit, didn’t work though… she’s now behind bars.

It didn't work, but the defence put forward some curly questions to the expert witness.

New information has led detectives from the Missing Persons Squad to Enfield State Park, about 25km south of Ballarat.
It is understood a critical part of the investigation has also surrounded Mr Stephenson’s internet searches.

Let's pray that this brings some closure for Samantha's family and friends.

Let this be the search that brings Samantha back to her loved ones so they can lay her to rest with dignity.

Wouldn’t it be nice for the trial if his internet searches coincided with exactly where they find Samantha? That would be a very tidy bit of closure for all. Hoping this is the time they bring her home.

Sounds like Stephenson’s internet searches might be offering more clues that have drawn the search team back to Enfield. Possibly the triangulation of intel from Sam’s phone, witness or informant input, and Stephenson’s digital footprint converging on the same geographic area (Enfield), prompting re‑examination.
Enfield’s role as the end point and missing piece continues to grow stronger daily I think. With the trial looming, there’s still a real opportunity to find Sam before the courtroom takes over. Stephenson will be acutely aware of this news and the mounting focus.

It was reported in my DM link above
that there are old mine shafts in this area.

Quote:

"Police have warned the public to stay away during the new search
as the area is littered with dangerous mine shafts."

:(

Maybe one of the focusses for his internet browsing history is whether or not he searched for a complete online guide/online map indicating disused mine/diggings in Enfield.. just sayin.

The reporter is providing a breakdown of how the specialist police are searching in a row, each mineshaft. Sounds like they have specific intel and that LE are co-operating with media. Its a large dense area, but it seems like it could just be a matter of time and sticking to the methodology for a breakthrough.

There isn’t a public map showing the exact mineshafts in Enfield, as they are unstable and dangerous. In my view, police are instead relying on Stephenson’s GPS data, tracking where he went and returned, supported by witness accounts and any new intel still coming in. Escorting Stephenson back to Enfield was likely to test his alibi against that location data. Sam’s phone was found about 5 km away in a dam beside the main road, suggesting it was discarded on the drive to or from Enfield. Enfield has always been a central focus, it’s close to both the dam and his home and the weight of evidence continues to reinforce that link. I’m optimistic that Sam will be found before the trial. 🤞🏼

I did a search 'maps old mines Enfield State park vic -ai'. Lots of pages and links came up showing areas of density for historical mines and shallow diggings. Prospecting is legal in Vic (with a permit). Maps and trails of historical significance are available if you know what you're looking for.
While I don't disagree with your theory re both the accused and Samantha's phone/GPS co-ordinates and pings. We know that the accused was an active trailbike rider and there are both official and unofficial motocross tracks in Enfield. Someone/s familiar with these tracks, and having grown up in the area would be very likely to know the telltale signs of old diggings and mines.
I've attached a link showing basic visual cues to recognising old mines Dangers to recognise in historical mining areas
