Aiken man arrested on Child Sexual Abuse Material* and related charges - South Carolina Attorney General

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of William Daniel Mayes, 54, of Aiken, S.C. on seven charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors

A veteran Aiken attorney’s license to practice law has been suspended by the S.C. Supreme Court after his arrest on multiple charges related to the possession of sexual images of children.

The Supreme Court also ordered the assets and files of attorney W. Daniel “Danny” Mayes to be seized, including his client trust accounts, and put under the protection of a court receiver. Such a move is standard in cases of suspension.

Mayes does not yet have an attorney and has been released on his personal recognizance, according to Aiken County court records.

Authorities state that Mayes has been charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count; and two counts of voyeurism, a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to 3 years imprisonment for a first offense on each count.

Mayes is alleged to have recorded a person without their consent and was in possession of files containing child sexual abuse material.

An attorney from Aiken is now facing charges in Charleston County after he was previously arrested in Aiken County in connection to the sexual exploitation of minors.
