More information: Cobey Smith was murdered on Sliding Rock Trail at 200 Clark Street. Just moments before the murder, a witness heard someone call out to Cobey from the wooded area around the trail. Cobey walked up the trail and was shot multiple times. His body was located by his mother and brother, who heard the gunshots''.

Family and friends marched Saturday evening to honor the life of Cobey Smith, a 16-year-old shot and killed five years ago off Clark Street in Greenville.
Investigators said Smith, who would now be 21 years old, was shot and killed on the Sliding Rock Creek trail in Greenville. It was only a stone's throw away from where he lived in Nicholtown.''
''Niki said she can't imagine why anyone would have wanted to hurt the teen, who at the time, was a student at Wade Hampton High School.
"He was a good person, no doubt. It's just so hard. (His killer/killers) have to really give me a real strong reason as to why his life didn't have no value to them," she said. "I don't understand.''
