October 2017:

Principe gets 25 years in death of CCU student

A Conway teen was sentenced to 25 years in jail Monday afternoon after he pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter under the N.C. v. Alford provision in connection with the shooting death of a Coastal Carolina University student in 2015.

In tearful comments to the judge, Gray’s mother, Marguerita Shaw, told John she wakes up everyday hoping the entire incident was a bad dream.

“My family has been devastated,” she said, adding that Gray was loved by his parents, grandparents, brothers, uncles, classmates, teachers, employer and friends.

On August 28, 2017, Alfred Dunkin pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of murder and armed robbery. His sentence was temporarily held at that time. He pleaded to the lesser charges for aiding and abetting Principe in the armed robbery plan, and for hiding the murder weapon after they left the scene, the release states.

On October 3, Dunkin was sentenced to 14 years in prison for each offense, Holford said. The sentences will run concurrently.
