The newspaper clipping in her NamUs file refers to a Reader's Service ring. I found another article referring to the same ring but it states that her skull was actually found in July 1980 and initially believed to be Native American. It wasn't until an anthropologist realized it had been wrapped in synthetic fiber that they identified it as being a modern death. More available in clipping at link: https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-herald/194246070/

I did a search for Local Reader's Service and found that it is/was a company based in Terre Haute, Indiana, which represented various magazines and publishers, according to this court document: https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/FSupp/443/91/1953607/
There seems to be quite a few court cases, but I'm not sure the significance.

Here's another newspaper article that has some more information. The ring was given to employees to increase magazine circulation.
Looks like the company went out of business around 1970 according to that article...if the UID is on the lower end of the age range she likely got it from someone else as she would have been too young to work for that company. It looks like they didn't keep track of who got them so it would be pretty hard to trace.

Were they one of the companies that sold publications door to door? The type of company Marion County Jane Doe worked for?
