Thanks to RazzleDazzle for alerting this:

Horry County police are investigating a body found in the area of Canal Street and 8th Avenue North on Sunday, June 10. The body was found laying in a "ditch-like" area, which was surrounded by a field and wooded area and was near a set of railroad tracks. The body appeared to have been there for an extended period, as it was in an advanced state of decomposition.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

I couldn't find any updates on this story nor did I find a NamUs listing for the UID. He/she could have been id'd by now. I'll continue my attempts to figure out if this is still an open case.

Meanwhile though I'd like to suggest NamUs #MP42733 Margaret Holcomb as a potential match. She disappeared from Conway, SC. which is ~30mins. westward of Myrtle Beach on Feb. 4, 2018 (last seen 2/3/18). There is absolutely no comparison info on the UID, other than human remains in an adv state of decomp, which was reported in the linked article.

I will call and inquire about the status of the case and if necessary, suggest Margaret be compared to determine a match. If any of you can sleuth out any info on these remains or Margaret, it'll be appreciated. TIA

After a round or two of phone tag with Detective Thorpe he kindly informed me via voicemail that it's been determined that this UID has been identified (name not given to me) and it is not Margaret Holcomb. I searched briefly but did not find any MSM updates on this case.

As aways, this is bittersweet news in that this person has his/her name back and hopefully will be able to rest peacefully near loved ones. My condolences to and prayers for family and friends.

Also, there's still hope for finding Margaret alive and well.

I went looking to see if I could find any updated articles, too (I didn't find one either), and holy crap there are so many reports of remains being found in that county...

Thank you for your efforts! Yes, there are quite a few. I suppose this might be due to it being a heavily populated tourist area plus its location near the ocean and its beaches.
