Oh goodness, just looking at the area surrounding Longs... it looks so remote and wooded, so many out-of-the-way places...

If he did take his own life, he could be anywhere.

Over the years, subtle changes seem to have crept into the details regarding Jaby's disappearance.

The original (Doe Network?) article quoted above no longer appears to exist.

Namus confirms only the first part, that Jaby (now referred to as a "victim") was last seen on January 20 at home, and his vehicle was left in the driveway. No information about January 23.

The Horry County Police site confirms only the second part, that Jaby was reported missing on January 23 by his now ex-wife after she received his suicide note in an e-mail. No information about January 20, only that there's no evidence of suicide or foul play in the home.

I think the changes are important because, if both parts are true, then we have a situation where an ex-spouse takes three days to report a disappearance. That's always suspicious, especially considering that those three days were weekdays. Was Jaby working during this time? If not, wouldn't his wife or his employer have noticed that he wasn't going to work? But now she's his ex-wife, so was she living at the house at all? If not, then who was the last person to see him?

Furthermore, if Jaby was last home on January 20, from where did he e-mail his suicide note three days later? Could you pre-schedule e-mails for delivery in 2002 like you can now? I honestly don't remember. If not, then what was Jaby doing for those three days? Or maybe he sent it on the 20th but the ex-wife just didn't check her e-mail until the 23rd?
