<sigh> This cute happy-looking 13 year-old looks like a 13 year-old.
Gone for 4 days. Takes my breath away.
Prayers for her and for those who love her, and for those who are looking for her.

*This one really breaks my heart. It really does:confused:

“Any death is heartbreaking but it’s even more challenging to understand when it is a child," Rutherford said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Columbia Police said in the last several hours that they have promising leads in this case.

CPD tells WIS the investigation shifted from suspicious death to murder investigation after Baker’s autopsy.

This is so sad. So young. She deserved to live out her life, not die at just 13 and in a house fire, no less. And to be murdered?! It just turns my stomach. I just hope Ka'Niyah was dead before the fire began. RIP, young lady. I am sorry this happened to you.
I strongly suspect she was already dead, and the fire was lit to try and cover up the crime and destroy evidence.

MOO

Hoping you are correct WRT her death, 'shadow -- it makes sense, IMO. Whoever it was who killed her apparently wanted to make her "go away" in the fire so that no one would know what happened.
Also hoping LE has some ideas about who killed this 13 year old.
We will never know what good things this young girl could have done.
Fly high, Ka'Niyah.

wow... I hope they do charge them as adults!!!

Glad that the suspects have been found and have been arrested. Surely, due to the heinous things that were done to Ka'Niyah, the suspects will be tried as adults.

Prayers for those who loved Ka'Niyah, and may she rest in peace.

Im not going to post the details of her murder in this thread

Holbrook said police arrested a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl in connection with the case overnight Friday into Saturday. He said the 16-year-old was reported missing by her mom on Jan. 12 and has a history of disorderly conduct, malicious injury and other crimes. At the time, she was wanted by the Department of Juvenile Justice after allegedly cutting off her ankle monitor. Police said the 15-year-old was a frequent runaway who dropped out of high school.

And, any aged child can be charged as an adult if they are accused of murder or criminal sexual conduct:

(6) Within thirty days after the filing of a petition in the family court alleging the child has committed the offense of murder or criminal sexual conduct, the person executing the petition may request in writing that the case be transferred to the court of general sessions with a view to proceeding against the child as a criminal rather than as a child coming within the purview of this chapter. The judge of the family court is authorized to determine this request. If the request is denied, the petitioner may appeal within five days to the circuit court. Upon the hearing of the appeal, the judge of the circuit court is vested with the discretion of exercising and asserting the jurisdiction of the court of general sessions or of relinquishing jurisdiction to the family court. If the circuit judge elects to exercise the jurisdiction of the general sessions court for trial of the case, he shall issue an order to that effect, and then the family court has no further jurisdiction in the matter.

The two teenage girls, 15 and 16 years old, from Columbia, had dropped out of a local high school, Holbrook said. Both girls arrested were frequent runaways.

“We expect to pursue justice in this matter,” said Fifth Circuit Solicitor Byron Gipson.

The solicitor’s office is expected to petition the family court and ask to charge these two juveniles as adults, Gipson said in Saturday’s press conference.

One of the juvenile suspects was wanted by the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and was currently wearing an ankle monitor. She had removed her ankle monitor and had a pick-up order to be returned to DJJ custody, Holbrook said during the press conference.

Holbrook pointed to the lack of parents in teens’ lives is a the common theme among the “senseless violence” happening in the city of Columbia.

“This is gut-wrenching,” Holbrook said. “When you talk to people that have been involved in committing heinous crimes like this, you’re looking to seek answers and read their reactions. But sometimes its when there is no reactions is what’s most troubling

Two teenagers have been arrested in the death of a missing South Carolina girl, in a case described as “gruesome” and “monstrous,” the Columbia Police Department announced at a news conference Saturday.
