from wfyy tv in greenville sc:

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The hands and feet found in bags outside two Greenville residences belonged to a 34-year-old Greenville woman who was reported to be alive on Friday, investigators said Tuesday afternoon.

Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans said that investigators have not determined whether the woman, Mekole Michelle Harris, was alive or dead when her hands and feet were removed.

Evans said that the case is not yet being classified as homicide, but that if Harris was alive and not under surgical care at the time her hands and feet were removed, it's unlikely she could have survived.
"I do think we're looking for the rest of the body and at that time, as soon as that's recovered, it will become a homicide investigation," Evans said.

Harris' mother, Jessie Harris of Fountain Inn, said that she last spoke to her daughter a week ago. Other family members said that she had been seen at a store on Friday.

"I believe she's gone. She's gone. She's gone. She's not living like that," Jesse Harris said.

Evans said that fingerprint evidence identified the hands as belonging to Harris. Evans said that while there is no definitive proof, there is no reason not to believe the feet were also removed from Harris.

The hands and feet were not decomposing, indicating that they were removed only a short time before they were found, Evans said.

The last known address for Harris was a house on King Street in Greenville.

The youngest of six children, Mekole Harris was the mother of four children.

Her mother said that she struggled with drug problem for most of her life.

"She was on drugs for a very long time and she had started when she was very young," Jessie Harris said. "She didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve to die like that."

She also made a plea to her daughter's killer:

"Just tell us where she is, please. We need to know," she said. "Bring her where she can be seen."

Body Parts Placed At Sisters' Residences

Two bags, each containing one of Harris' hands and a foot, were discovered outside an apartment and a house in Greenville on Monday morning.

Family members of sisters who lived at the residences just want to know why someone would do such a thing.

One of the sisters lives at an apartment at the Andover Park complex on Cleveland Street where one bag was left. Until about a week ago, the other sister lived at a house on Rose Avenue where the other bag was discovered.

Greenville police are using surveillance video and have conducted interviews with family members of the women in an effort to get some answers.

"That's terrible. That's a terrible thing to have happened to anybody," the sisters' father, John Lewis Burnside, said. "It just is wrong. That's the way I look at it, it's wrong for a person to commit a crime like that. "

Greenville Police Cpl. Jason Rampey said that at about 7:55 a.m. Monday morning, police responded to a call from Andover Park.

One of the sisters had called after finding the bag outside her apartment.

While officers were investigating that call, they were called about a similar discovery at the home on Rose Avenue, about a mile and a half away.

A neighbor said that the hand and foot were in a black plastic bag on the porch.

"When I saw that bag on the front porch this morning, I got a funny feeling that something just wasn't right," neighbor Andrea Young said.

Young said her dog had crossed the street to sniff at the bag.

"We're dumbfounded, we don't know what to think right now," Sirrine-Haynie neighborhood watch president Felsie Harris said.

Police said that they checked the sisters' 15 siblings to make sure that they are OK.

"Any human being on this Earth shouldn't be waking up seeing things like this," Johnny Burnside, one of the sisters’ brothers, said. "I wouldn't want that on anybody, even my worst enemy."

I'd still like to know more about the two relatives. Obviously there's a connection there. Maybe it involves drugs, and the two relatives were being "shown" what happens when you don't pay up. Sounds crazy, I know. I'm curious though.

MsRusty, I think your thoughts are the only sane thing about this case. Of course, the body parts are a warning. The big question, IMO, is did the perp know the victim, or was she chosen at random? If the rumor about the toes being missing is true, then I would have to say he knew the victim - or knew "of" the vicitm. That sounds like something that would be done if someone was trying to get information out of someone. Stupid, evil bastard. He need to be caught.

Well for my theory to be correct I'd say the killer knew the victim as well as the two relatives. Maybe Harris owed money also and that's why was killed. I hope they find her body soon for the family's sake.

I hope they find her soon. Her mother and family deserve closure.

And I just found this article:

From 2nd article...

WOW - that is really scary. You would hope that the woman receiving the letters could shed some light on who might be sending them and help solve this. I pray that she is able to remain safe.

Apparently, a husband and wife have been arrested for the murder of this poor woman. I really need to hear the rest of the story.

"Physical evidence found at the home of Clarence Jenkins Jr. and Carman Major Jenkins was linked to evidence found in the two places where Mekole Michelle Harris' feet and hands were found in bags on Monday, according to arrest warrants obtained by The Greenville News."

Oh, wow, how sad. This case really bothered me. I'm sure the evidence found at the home had to have included the trash bags used to deliver the body parts. Such senseless crimes. I want to know the motive and how the people from the two houses tie into this.
I hope they find the rest of her remains for her mother's sake.

Here's another article that states "bags and bags" of evidence were taken from the couple's trailer. That leads me to believe that maybe that was the scene of the actual crime. It also said their two young children had been taken away by social services, I hope it was before this ever happened. Includes video.

Oh yes. I think there will be much more coming out on this one.

This case has just stuck in my mind since I first read about it. I wish LE were more forthcoming with details. I want to know if the couple actually knew Harris or what the deal is. I also can't imagine anybody dismembering a body. Usually it's too dispose of easier or to avoid being able to ID the body, but in this case the body parts were delivered to other individuals. I want to know WHY they did that. Also the killers were young....it's scary. As I mentioned before I hope their children had been removed before the murder and not as a result of it.

Death penalty looms for couple in dismemberment case

A Greenville couple will face the death penalty on charges that they dismembered a woman in a bizarre attempt to extort thousands of dollars from another person the woman didn't know.

Clarence and Carman Jenkins -- charged with murder in Mekole Harris' presumed death last April -- are in court today as lawyers argue over small-scale legal issues related to their trial.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Bob Ariail said today he hasn't decided yet whether to try the married couple together as co-defendants.

The couple are eligible for capital punishment if convicted because they are accused of killing someone for money or something of value and dismembering a body, Deputy Solicitor Betty Strom said.

Clarence Williams Jenkins, 25, and Carman Major Jenkins, 21, are accused of dropping trash bags containing the severed hands and feet of the 34-year-old Harris in front of two Greenville residences last April.

The limbs were meant to frighten a woman into paying the Jenkins' $10,000, Strom said in earlier court proceedings.

From March 2012:

http://www.wyff4.com/Woman-Sentenced-For-Murder-Dismemberment/10075698

Carman Jenkins pleaded guilty Tuesday morning... Last May, prosecutors said they would no longer pursue a capital trial against Jenkins because of her cooperation in leading investigators to the rest of Harris' remains.

Very little information has surfaced to explain why Harris became the victim in this case, but testimony has suggested the crime was committed to threaten Grace Davis, a woman who investigators said temporarily lived with the Jenkins while romantically involved with Clarence...

During a bond hearing for Jenkins, investigators described Harris as a "random victim" who had no connection to Davis.

From April 2012:

http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20120414/PC16/120419557

Clarence Jenkins, who was found guilty of murder and kidnapping in connection with Harris's death, was sentenced to life in prison by the judge presiding over the case...

The judge said Clarence Jenkins will not be eligible for parole.

From June 2013:

http://www.wyff4.com/news/local-new...ns-death-dismemberment-back-in-court/20497738

A woman who was serving a 50-year sentence for her part in the murder and dismemberment of a Greenville woman was back in court Monday, asking for a reduction in her sentence...

[Carman] Jenkins' sentence was reduced from 50 years to 40 years... Wilkins called Jenkins "instrumental" in convicting her husband.
