The Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) reported that Morgan Duncan, 27, was last seen Nov. 28 at his home on Springtree Drive.

Morgan’s mother, La’Tanza Duncan, described Morgan Duncan as “one of the sweetest, kindest people you’d ever meet” who has a “beautiful, infectious smile.”

He is also in need of prescribed medication. Morgan Duncan’s mother stated that he “was diagnosed with schizophrenia” and that the medication “helps him control some of the symptoms of the disease.”

The coroner’s office was able to determine the remains belonged to Morgan Duncan, 27. Duncan was reported missing by his mother on Nov. 28, 2023 from the 200 block of Springtree Drive off Parklane Road.

“He didn’t do anything to deserve what happened to him,” his mother LaTanza Duncan said in a Friday interview. “He didn’t do it to himself, and we have to protect those who can’t protect themselves.”

LaTanza Duncan said the identification of more of her son’s remains was not entirely surprising because she knew that all of his remains were not located this summer.

But, she said, it is just another step in this “horrible process.”

“Each day is hard,” LaTanza Duncan said. “Each day requires me to pull on something that I don’t even know that I have within myself.”

Morgan’s mother has leaned on her faith, and the support from family and friends over the last year. She raises Morgan Duncan’s young daughter, Mary.

A “sweet individual with a sweet spirit,” LaTanza Duncan said her son’s challenges with mental illness weighed heavily on him.

He was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 19 years old while a freshman at the University of South Carolina.
