Hunt for missing baby leads to kidnapping sitter and her abusive pastor husband, SC cops say

An Upstate pastor and his wife are facing charges after a mother told deputies her baby was kidnapped.

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call Friday evening of a 2-month-old kidnapped after the infant's mother said the babysitter, Jennifer Bunting, had not returned her infant and stopped communicating with her.

Deputies found Bunting with the baby at a home in Joanna around midnight Friday.

Investigators learned that Bunting had smoked marijuana around the 2-month-old, and the child was taken to a hospital to be checked out and treated.

Bunting was charged with kidnapping and unlawful conduct towards a child. She is being held in the Laurens County Detention Center under a $45,000 bond.

During the investigation, deputies discovered that Buntings' husband, David English, was reportedly aware of his wife's drug addiction and had "participated in taking her to obtain illegal drugs on previous occasions."

Investigators also learned that English allegedly assaulted Bunting earlier that week during a dispute about her whereabouts, resulting in Bunting having injuries.

Pastor Faces Charges for Beating Wife after She Kidnapped an Infant

“As for Mr. English, this guy is a preacher, as well as a teacher in another county. It is very disturbing to think that someone in his position, which makes him a role model to our youth, would assist his wife in purchasing illegal drugs or would assault a woman… We will continue to incarcerate these types of violent offenders and put it in the hands of the prosecution,” he concluded.
