Missing Columbia teen hasn’t been seen in more than a week

Deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department are seeking the public’s help in finding a 15-year-old teen.

According to deputies, Sanaa Amenhotep was last seen leaving her residence in Northeast Columbia on April 5, 2021, and has not been heard from since.

Officials say Amenhotep is described as 5′5″ and 160 pounds with long brown braids and black eyes.

She was last seen wearing a black NASA shirt, a black and brown throw around her shoulders, light blue jeans and pink crocs.

Father searching for teenage daughter who vanished 9 days ago

A father is searching for his teenage daughter.

Sanaa Amenhotep, 15, disappeared on April 5, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

The girl's father, Sharif Amenhotep, said concerns grew after her mother, who she stays with in Columbia, said the teen hadn't come home.

Amenhotep was last seen leaving her residence. She never came home.

That's when the teenager's father took action.

He drove to South Carolina from New Jersey to look for his daughter.

"We've been searching all over the entire South Columbia area. I mean, every part that somebody told me about or that I learned about, we went, and putting up these flyers all over the place," said Amenhotep.

Amenhotep told WACH FOX News he's worried his little girl might have been abducted.

New Jersey father desperately searches for missing daughter in the Midlands

“We have a massive search effort for my daughter, we going to every part of Columbia that we can,” Sanaa’s father, Sharif Amenhotep, said. “We started off in the Northeast side, Decker Blvd., Sumter, now we in West Columbia. Hotels, motels -- anywhere she could possibly be.”

The 15-year-old was last seen leaving her home in Northeast Columbia and has not been heard from since.

Her father fears the worst.

“Her phone’s been off, her Instagram’s been off. My daughter calls me at least twice a week,” Sharif Amenhotep said. “She doesn’t go a week without calling me. We have a close relationship.”

FIND OUR DAUGHTER: Community unites for rally to bring missing teen home

A rally was held on Friday to help find 15-year-old Sanaa Amenhotep, who has been missing since April 5.

“I just really hope we can bring her home,” Sanaa’s sister said.

Sanaa’s family and a number of organizations pleaded with the community to join them in their search for the missing teen.

Group leaders also spoke about the growing number of teens who have gone missing.

“We have over 4,378 missing children in the state of South Carolina,” Chandra Cleveland, a private investigator who works with missing children, said.

Sanaa’s parents are offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to their daughter’s safe return.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says a missing 15-year-old girl has been found dead and officers believe she was murdered. He also announced they've arrested one suspect and are looking for another in the case.

She was found in a wooded area off Interstate 20 in the Batesburg-Leesville area.

I'm confused. Mom said she asked for permission to go take photos w/ her sister. Did Sanaa and her sister return home that day? How'd she voluntarily leave home that night if mom didn't know she ever came back?

• No info released on the relationship b/w Sanaa and the suspects due to the ongoing investigation
• Richmond County is only charging them w/ kidnapping
• Murder charges will be brought in Lexington county
• Gang-related activity is connected to this case

Lott said that Sanaa left her Northeast Columbia home voluntarily on April 5 with an acquaintance and two teenage boys but was later kidnapped. Jaylon Shyir Wilson, 17, has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and is currently at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and a second man, Traveon Jamaar Nelson, 17, is wanted for the kidnapping.

Yeah, I posted a comment above about it b/c I'd read in @PommyMommy's post that mom said she left to go take pics w/ her sister. The statements mom made (snipped below) make me wonder whether she wasn't aware that Sanaa came home. Something got confused somewhere, imo.

Confirming his daughter's death on Instagram, Amenhotep said she was his whole world.

"My whole world my heart my everything gone from this physical realm onto the Ancestors I’m destroyed for life," he wrote.

Fleming, along with the community, searched for her daughter, but now she says she wants justice.

"I need justice for my daughter because a child this sweet, cakey, shouldn't have to die like that," Fleming said.

While Fleming waits for more answers, she remembers her little girl.

"I'm going to miss my fashionista, she helped me get dressed in the morning," Fleming said. "She had to have me on-point, she would say you're my mother I can't have you going out there any kinda way. I'm going to miss that, but in the words of my late brother spirit doesn't die."

The Lexington County Coroner said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
