It has to be more than a coinsidense unless there is a serial killer there. jmo

i dont believe that it is known there is a serial killer there. today is the first day i've even heard it mentioned and i am from the area. A couple of people going missing in the area was all that was linked to in the discussion and that is a stretch saying it is a serial killer that is responsible for all of those. In almost any area of the country you have the same amount of missing people if not more. Also in all of these cases except for the ones that are recent within the last few months there are persons of interest but just no proof. I need more proof before I start believing that way. They could be right. The FBI does say there are anywhere from around 25-50 serial killers working at one time, I wouldn't be surprised if there were one in NC. But just not seeing the dots being connected right yet.

I do definitely think it was the same person that did both of these killings though. 2 people in barrels are just too similar, especially in the same area. I just don't see any similarity in other missing persons cases in the state like other people are stating.

Not saying there is a serial killer, but what are the chances two people are found in the lake in the same kind of barrel. I was just commenting that there may be a connection to the two victims. Kind of strange that they were found two days apart, in a barrell. Guess we will just have to wait and see. jmo

This article is updated. Says Tony was dismembered but Kellie was not - maybe he wouldn't fit in the barrel. Also one of the articles said that investigators thought the victims had been 'targeted' - I would guess that means not randomly chosen. Something led LE to search a home - hopefully they already know who the perp is.

Oh, I know you weren't. Sorry if my post sounded targeted towards you. Under all the news articles I was reading and in other posts on WS many people were talking about the Southfork River serial killer and they thought this was related. So I was just addressing how I didn't think so. Should have been more clear.

2 arrested in case of bodies found in barrels

Anderson County deputies said Saturday they have arrested two men in connection with the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in barrels in Lake Hartwell on Thursday.

McBride said deputies served a search warrant at the Centerville Road home of 35-year-old John Michael Young on Thursday night. He said Young was wanted on two counts of murder in connection with the deaths and was arrested just after 12 a.m. on Saturday at a home on West Lake Street in Anderson.

Shaine Fischer was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder in connection with the deaths, McBride said.

McBride said investigators believe that Mitchell, McGinnis, Young and Fischer had the same circle of friends and were acquainted with each other.

A cause of death was not immediately released for either Mitchell or McGinnis. According to arrest warrants, investigators believe McGinnis was killed in September and Mitchell was killed in October.

JMY murdered two people a month apart. What is the definition of a serial killer? He could possibly fit.

John Michael Young said he helped dispose of two bodies by putting them in barrels in Hartwell Lake, but he denied killing Andrea Kellie Mitchell and Tony Lamar McGinnis.

After accepting a 30-year plea deal, Judge Ned Miller of Greenville said he wanted to know how Mitchell, 37, and McGinnis, 53, were killed...

Young, 37, said he only disposed of the bodies. He did not elaborate.

Shaine David Fischer was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison after admitting to helping to dispose of two bodies that were found in barrels in Hartwell Lake...

“The general consensus,” Judge Verdin said, “is that Mr. Fischer is not as culpable, and that Mr. Young deserved more time”...

“As far as a reason? I don’t think he can give one,” Potter said. “He’s a meth head. That’s what this it was all about.”
