''RAMAPO, N.Y. (AP) — Multiple injuries were reported Thursday when a school bus crashed into a house and another vehicle in a suburb north of New York City.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. in the village of New Hempstead in Rockland County, according to Ramapo Police Sgt. Andre Sanchez.

Video broadcast by television news stations and photos posted on social media showed a yellow school bus resting against a house alongside an overturned car. A path of torn up ground and broken tree limbs stretched up a hill behind the bus. The impact appeared to have crushed the engine compartment on the bus and torn away part of the home’s siding.

News reports said several children and the bus driver were taken to hospitals for treatment. Police did not immediately release details on the severity of their injuries.''

''At least seven children were rushed to the hospital early Thursday morning when a school bus carrying more than 20 students crashed into two parked cars and careened into a nearby home.

Authorities say the crash happened just before 9am as a bus bringing children to a nearby Jewish Day School hit two parked cars and tumbled down a hill.

It then struck the side of a two-story home on South Gate Drive in New Hempstead, New York before stopping''

''The crash occurred on a street that had speed bumps installed recently after longstanding complaints about buses using residential roads as a shortcut-- often at unsafe speeds.

"The reason why so many buses use this street as a cut-through is if you drive down Union towards 306 or the other side toward 306 there's a lot of traffic in the morning," Orthodox Jewish Public Affairs representative Yossi Gestetner.

A number of the passengers on the bus were trapped and had to be rescued by first responders.

The two most seriously injured children were taken to Westchester Medical Center, and the other five plus the driver were taken to other hospitals with injuries ranging from head trauma to a broken leg.

"It's a very disturbing, shocking scene," Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht said. "We're worried about the kids. We're worried about everybody's safety. I'm very grateful for our police and all the first responders that very quickly arrived."
