In a search effort that appears to have gone badly awry, police in Stirlingshire, Scotland finally located a missing couple they were looking for Wednesday - three days after witnesses reported to police that they'd seen a car that had gone off the road.

28-year-old John Yuill died instantly in the crash that happened Sunday but his girlfriend, mom of two Lamara Bell, 25, survived and is now critical in hospital. Police Scotland failed to connect the report of the crash Sunday, with the missing couple they put out an appeal for, Monday.

An investigation has been launched into what went wrong.

This is such a horrible and sad story. I hope that the poor woman recovers fully. Police Scotland are getting a lot of criticism and abuse for this but people need to remember that they didn't actually cause the crash in the first place.

A Scottish MP has asked why police did not respond, but I doubt an answer will be forthcoming for ages, until the police investigation of themselves is over. Maybe some answers will be forthcoming earlier, at the inquest?

The video at the link shows the crash site. It looks like the vehicle went down a ditch and was hidden in trees. Looks like it hit one too. :(

I've seen this on the news, how awful that perhaps they both could have lived if it was investigated sooner.

Somebody needs to go and arrest the police...
