SCPD, Baby Doe, DNA - Cover up

Posted this on the belt thread but it’s shocked me so much I think it’s worthy of its own thread.

SCPD are claiming that they cannot extract viable DNA samples from asian male and Baby Doe as their DNA has been degraded by exposure to the elements.

But Baby Doe was linked to her Mum Peaches via their DNA analysis as they weren’t dumped together. So why are they now saying they can’t extract her DNA?

DNA has been extracted from the the remains of bears from the Pleistocene era which ended 11,700 years ago.

In the UK the body of King Richard III was found 530 years after his death, buried under a car park with no coffin and he was identified using DNA.

This is not an investigation, it’s a cover up. They’ve just exposed themselves. This is insane.

All good points, @Sallyla. 100% agree.

Apologists for SCPD will claim that they inherited corruption, their hands are tied, they are doing the best they can, etc, but time and again they show their complete lack of regard through statements like that--ones that can be easily deconstructed and proven illogical with simple reasoning.

And the worst part is, they don't care an ounce how bad this all looks--they keep doubling down with more of it.

From the Madeleine McCann case, there has been a lot of discussion about degraded DNA. If the DNA was so degraded it’s causing issues, it’s extremely unlikely that it would have definitively confirmed Peaches was the mother. Instead there would be ambiguity and the potential she could be a sister or aunt. There’s also DNA amplification and other methods or improving quality.

Peaches torso was found very shortly after her death and obviously DNA would have been easy to obtain and they had it as they compared it to Baby Doe’s. That means that 50% of Baby Doe’s genes are available through that. It’s not necessary to have her DNA for genealogical tracing on her mother’s side because Peaches has provided it. This leaves her father’s DNA and given the unusual act of killing Baby Doe too, there is a strong possibility he killed both of them and may have been a domestic partner. Even partial matches can be of use to narrow to a group. It’s odd the mother’s DNA and hers have a match but the father’s apparently yield nothing useful.

From what little I understand, my guess is they were unable to extract nuclear dna which contains both mother and fathers genetic sequence because it is more sensitive to environmental factors than the more more resilient type, mitochondrial (mtdna) which would only give the maternal side.

That makes sense--thanks for clarifying, LR1.

They should have ample dna evidence from Peaches, though, to run through the genealogy databases. They estimate her torso was found roughly 3 days after her murder, and the tattoo pic alone cements the fact that there was soft tissue very much intact.

The fact that they did not comment on the status of Peaches' dna is curious, IMO, given she would be the one yielding the most clues.
