Circumstances of disappearance :

On September 28, 2008, Sofia and her parents went with friends to a campsite in Río Grande. That afternoon, from one moment to the next, the girl disappeared and no one knew anything more about her.
The case has no arrests and there are no certain clues as to where the minor may be.
With the case stalled, Justice still has a suspect in its sights. This is Dagoberto Díaz, a nomad from Chile who lived for a time in Argentina, but since Interpol requested his capture he disappeared.

(Sofia's mother) "When we arrived at the place, we paid the entrance fee and parked the cars. My husband and my friend's husband went down to look for a place to prepare the barbecue. When they were walking along a path with many trees, apparently my daughter got lost with another child ".

Sofía's mother indicated that, according to the testimony of a six-year-old child, a person picked up Sofía, covered her mouth and put her in a gray car.

According to Delgado, when they realized that the girl was missing, they called the police.

"We called around 11:45 in the morning and the police arrived at the scene at 3:00 in the afternoon," said the mother.

"The most specific thing the investigation reached is the international arrest warrant, launched only in 2020, for José Dagoberto Díaz Águila, a Chilean day laborer whose appearance matches the description of the “man who took Sofia” made by one of the children who were at the campsite that day. The boy was six years old at the time. When it was possible to identify the similarity between the description he made and Diáz Aguila, the same witness was summoned at the age of 18 and confirmed the version.

The truth is that that person was never able to be located. No evidence was found to incriminate him. For this reason, María Elena is categorical: “The cause is exhausted. The only thing we have left is to work with the data that people send us, about girls who look like Sofía,” she acknowledges with a mixture of hope and resignation regarding the progress of the judicial investigation.

The Herreras live in the same house as always. They preserve the crib in which Sofía slept and which was later used by the sister that Sofi never knew: in 2008, María Elena was pregnant with Giuliana, her second daughter, now 14 years old. All of Sofia's clothes are intact. “The one that was unwashed, we kept it that way. We hope that they will invent a new technology that will allow us to find out something from the DNA on their clothes,” says María Elena.
