Family of 'confused' British great-grandfather, 68, missing in Benidorm say police 'failed in their duty of care' by releasing him alone at 3am

The family of a British great-grandfather suspected of suffering dementia who has gone missing for nine days in Benidorm have accused the Spanish police of having "failed in their duty of care" by releasing him alone at 3am.

The 68-year-old's granddaughter Charlotte Dyer said he was taken to a local police station by a concerned holidaymaker after he began behaving "confused and disorientated" late on the Monday evening.

"The police have failed in their duty of care," Charlotte told i. "He didn't have any identification on him, and he couldn't remember his name or where he was staying and yet they have just released him all alone in a place he doesn't know. He was clearly in no state of mind to look after himself."

There are even more details in the story concerning the timeline, and searches.
