Court sets plea hearing for man accused in racially motivated stabbing

A plea hearing has been set for a man accused in a stabbing, which police say was racially motivated, at a local fast-food restaurant inside a truckstop on Dec. 21.

Nolan Strauss, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, appeared before Judge Lung Hung at Malhuer County Circuit Court Friday afternoon for an indictment hearing.

The charges in the preliminary arraignment on Monday were held. These include attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, bias crime in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon.

Strauss, a long-haul semi driver, had been in Ontario for a few days before he allegedly stabbed a man at a local fast-food restaurant on Saturday morning.

Plea hearing for Strauss delayed due to behavior

VALE — A plea hearing for a Colorado man accused of a racially-motivated stabbing that took place in December has been delayed.

Nolan Strauss, 26, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, was originally scheduled to have a plea hearing on Friday in front of Baker County Circuit Judge Matthew Shirtcliff. However, according to court records the defense was not present for the hearing as the jail was unable to bring Strauss to the hearing due to his behavior.

His next plea hearing has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.
