The above article says that it could be a lost museum artifact or a prank.

That's a whole state away. William went missing from the Mid North Coast of NSW. It's not impossible - Khandalyce was found half a country away from where she was killed, and half a country away in another direction from where her family came from. But I strongly suspect William was disposed of closer to home, and this is someone else's child.

This Brisbane Times article says it was a "skull bone". Sounds like it wasn't a whole skull. Which is likely why they can't identify it further (by sight) ... maybe no teeth attached, maybe no jaw bone. imo

I remember now that the first report I heard, on the radio, said it was a bone, or bones.

I think calling it a skull would get more people clicking on online articles.

Human remains are not always found in the place that the person was last seen.

In a case local to me they found a womans remains after 50 years, 134 kilometres from where she was last seen.
She was last seen leaving for work. She worked at a hotel a couple of blocks from where she lived.

Bizarre twist as mystery of human remains found in national park deepens

A thorough forensic examination of the remains has revealed a strange new detail.

“Following thorough forensic examination, it is believed that a skull discovered on a bush track in Springbrook on January 3 is likely to be a historical museum specimen,” a police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The case is now being referred to the coroner to try to work out what happened.
