As a retired superintendent, principal, and teacher, now back in a Georgia classroom and having a blast with my kids again, I have some time on my hands and a project I feel compelled to complete. A teacher who inspired me to go back into the classroom after decades of admin work has never received the justice she deserved. As many of us are aware, the UAV season one podcast that brought Tara Grinstead’s name back into the spotlight resulted in the prosecution of two men. However, if you are anything like me, you were left unsatisfied with the way things have been left: nobody has ever been convicted of her actual murder. The truth is still out there, folks. It resides in a prison cell in Jackson, and another in Columbus. I’d like a chance to speak with these two men and give them the chance to tell me their story. I’ll be speaking with her former colleagues, friends, family members, and a few people who up until now have not gone on the record. I will be in her former home. I will retrace her final steps from the pageant to that home. I will dive into the case files that are available and try to uncover what was perhaps missed over the years. I want to continue the work of Maurice, Payne, and so many others as we near the 20th anniversary of Tara’s disappearance. And maybe - just maybe- I can come up with the answer to the question that has been on our minds for so long: what really happened in Ocilla, Georgia on that cool October night in 2005? If anyone has some suggestions as my project kicks off, I am wide open. Thanks. Doc.
