Theory: In the basement the attacker grabs a golf club from the train room closet and threatens her with it. She grabs the clubhead in defense. The item has relatively sharp edges and it cuts her hand. The rectangular injury to her skull is consistent with a golf club strike. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

From the autopsy report: " Examination of the right extremities is unremarkable. On the middle finger of the right hand is a yellow metal band. Around the right wrist is a yellow metal identification bracelet with the name “JonBenet” on one side and the date “12/25/96” on the other side. A red ink line drawing in the form of a heart is located on the palm of the left hand."

There was no cut on her hand noted by the coroner. The picture above is of the red ink heart drawing. Golf club heads do not have edges sharp enough to cause a cut. The word "sharp" with regard to a golf club head refers to how the leading edge is forged to suit different golfers preferences. The leading edge can be "sharp", "rounded" or "beveled". A sharp leading edge is not equivalent to a knife's sharpness.

Thank you, that makes much more sense. I assumed it to be an injury. Because it is a bit faded it's probably just a 6 year old girl drawing on her palm with a biro.
