Identity of deceased woman Latest update: 02-10-2021 | 19:03 Case number: 2021152858 Found on: 28-09-2021

Tuesday morning, September 28, just after 10:00 a.m., a body of a deceased woman was found in the canal near Nederweert between the Kelperburg and the Spoorbrug. An investigation was immediately launched.

We do not yet know how and when the woman died. Further investigation has not yet provided us with any information about the identity of the woman. In order to get in touch with any next of kin and to be able to provide them with answers, it is extremely important for us to find out the identity of the woman we found. That's why we released a photo of her.

We are most likely dealing with a woman between the ages of 50 and 65. She was about 1.68 tall, weighed about 58 kilos and had a slim build. She had dyed blond hair with gray roots. It was also striking that she had gel nails or had gel nail polish on her nails. Her teeth were fitted with dentures on the upper jaw. She had a partial denture on the lower jaw. She also had pierced ears for earrings and had a belly button piercing, but it seems she hasn't had both in the recent past.

UPDATE: On Tuesday evening, February 1, there was attention for this case in both Opsporing Verzocht and the Belgian program FAROEK. In it, among other things, a sketch was released that was made by forensic specialists. That sketch would give a picture of what the woman might have looked like alive. In addition, it was announced that a dead dog was found on the bank near the canal that same day in September. It is currently unknown whether the dog and the woman are related. But if so, the dog could of course be an important clue to the woman's identity. The broadcasts of FAROEK and Opsporing Verzocht yielded more than 40 tips that are being further investigated. Do you think you recognize her? Or have you not seen someone who fits this description for some time? Please contact us. You can do this via 0800-6070, the tip form below or anonymously via 0800-7000 (Report Crime Anonymously).

Dode vrouw in kanaal na acht maanden geïdentificeerd

The identity of the woman found in the Wessem-Nederweert canal at the end of September has finally been revealed after eight months of investigation. The woman was 57 years of age and came from the German town of Solingen.

She is presumed to have died as a result of a crime. It is not clear how long she was in the water. Because there is no strong current at the location, the police suspect that she was left behind between the canal crossing in Nederweert and the Kelperbrug.

The police had great difficulty in identifying the woman. That is why Opsporing Verzocht, the Belgian crime programme Faroek and the German Aktenzeichen XY paid attention to the woman.

The investigation gained momentum when the 57-year-old woman was reported missing in Germany on 12 April. After that, the two cases soon came together and with additional investigation the identity of the woman found could be confirmed.

Wuppertal police

The public prosecutor's office and the Wuppertal police in cooperation with Dutch authorities are investigating the discovery of a corpse.
On 28 September 2021, a woman's body was discovered in a canal near Roermond (Netherlands), not far from the border with Germany.
Despite intensive investigations and public searches by the Dutch authorities, the woman could not be identified for a long time.
When a relative reported her 57-year-old cousin missing on 12 April 2022, the investigation led to a woman who had her place of residence in Solingen. Investigations revealed that the missing person was undoubtedly the dead woman from the canal.

Based on the findings so far, it can be assumed that she fell victim to a violent crime.

In order to clarify the background, the public prosecutor's office and the Wuppertal police have set up a multi-member homicide squad, which is working in close consultation with the Dutch authorities.

Nederweert is at a distance of +/- 120 kms from Solingen. For a crime that originates in Solingen - we do not know if that is the case here - it is not the most obvious dumping place. Solingen has lakes and vast wooded areas where a body can remain hidden for a long time.
Since the cousin reported her missing 7 months after she had already been found deceased, I wonder if the woman was travelling for a reason, perhaps work. She may not have been in regular contact with family and friends.

Aandacht Duits ‘Opsporing Verzocht’ voor dode vrouw Nederweert

The German investigation programme Aktenzeichen XY ... ungelöst on Wednesday evening will pay attention to a 57-year-old woman who was found dead in a canal near Nederweert last autumn.

The German police announced this on Tuesday. According to the police, the woman has been murdered.

IWONA OCHMAN, 57, from Solingen

The identity of the deceased woman is initially a mystery to investigators. They turn to viewers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany via missing persons programmes. In February, the case is the subject of "Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst".

Now it has been established that the victim is Iwona Ochman, a 57-year-old woman from Solingen. A family member had reported her missing in April and thus triggered the identification of the dead woman.

The last sign of life of Iwona Ochman is dated 22 September 2021. On that day, she visited an office in the centre of Solingen. She left the building at 4 p.m. at the latest. Six days later, her body was found in the Netherlands. Iwona Ochman had been murdered.

The Wuppertal CID has taken over the case and set up a homicide squad. The investigations are proceeding at full speed, the police have a lot of unanswered questions

Questions for witnesses:

Who else saw Iwona Ochman after 4 pm on Wednesday, 22 September 2021?
Who knows where she went and with whom she met afterwards?
Who can say something about the woman's connections to the Netherlands?

Thanks for the updates! Did they say anything about the dog they found? Was it a coincidence or hers? If it’s hers it might be a small clue in finding her killer.

The dog wasn't mentioned.
I don't think it was her dog. She was last seen when she left an office in Solingen. If she had a dog, it appears not to have been with her at that time. If she did have a dog, she must have gone home at a certain moment to pick it up, go for a walk, meet other dog walkers etc.
There were no questions about the dog in the broadcast.

On June 1, news about the murder of Iwona Ochman was broadcasted by Aktenzeichen XY on German national tv.

Identity clarified: CID investigates murder victim's background

There were also interesting tips about the murder of Iwona Ochman from Solingen - a case in which the Wuppertal CID is investigating. Ms Ochman's body had been found in a canal in the Netherlands. It took a long time to clarify the identity of the body. Currently, the police are investigating the victim's personal environment in search of a motive. In fact, there were some tipsthat sound very interesting to the police. For tactical reasons, however, the police do not want to disclose any further details at this time.

Ex opgepakt voor dode Duitse vrouw in kanaal bij Nederweert

A 63-year-old man has been arrested in Germany for allegedly killing his 57-year-old ex-wife. Her body was found in a canal in Nederweert in September last year.
German police said on Wednesday that the man now lives in Spain, but was arrested during a visit to Germany.
He is in detention for the time being.

The woman was last seen visiting a government facility in the centre of the German city of Solingen on 22 September last year, German police said. Around 4pm, she left the building again. Since then, every trace of her was missing. On 28 September, the captain of a barge discovered the woman's corpse. After the body was recovered, it was found that she had died due to a crime. The site where the woman was found is about a 20-minute drive from the German border.

It was only in April this year that the police found out who the woman in the canal was. A cousin had reported her missing, and that was when her identity could finally be established.

Solingen: Tote in Holland gefunden - Killer auf Heimatbesuch geschnappt

Arrest in the case of Iwona O. († 57), whose body was found more than a year ago in a canal near Nederweert in Holland!

Her former partner (63) has now been arrested. A judge remanded the man in custody for murder because he allegedly killed the woman out of greed.

On 28 September 2021, the murdered Solingen woman was found in the Netherlands. Initially, her identity was unclear; only when she was reported missing by a relative in Germany on 12 April 2022 could a connection be established. It is still unclear where the woman was killed.

About a month ago, the woman's ex became the target of the public prosecutor's office in Wuppertal; traces and investigations in the victim's personal environment pointed to him.

The 63-year-old had moved into a small finca on the Spanish mainland after September 2021, that he had bought purely for himself. Now the man was visiting Solingen. The investigators seized the opportunity - arrest!

The suspect has so far remained silent about the accusations, the investigations are continuing.
