I use to love those books! I never knew they were based on someone other than Cornwell.

Thanks for posting this AdoraBlue! I read this the other day and thought it was just a great summation of her career. Kinda funny too! I guess you'd have to have a good sense of humor to keep the balance. I loved the story about the snakes lol I'd a been outta there too! I also like what she had to say about her patients.

Wow, just finished reading the latest Scarpetta installment, along with Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone's T is for Tresspass. Both were very good, IMO.

Not to go too far OT but Grafton touched upon the subjects of elder abuse and child abuse, which was a huge departure from her usual " read it in 2 hours" formula. I have read all the Alphabet series and this new one is well worth buying.

I hope Patricia Cornwell will continue her Kay Scarpetta series.. I want to keep reading about Kay, Benton, Pete Marino, and Lucy. They're a part of my life after so MANY years.

Thanks for posting this article. Although I think the quality of the books has declined, Scarpetta felt like a real person I knew for many years. Patricia Cornwell has definitely fed the addiction to crime, punishment, mystery, and whodunnit in my brain!

What a great story. The real "Scarpetta" sounds like a neat lady and someone I'd love to know in person. I hope she enjoys many happy years of retirement with her honey.

I collect first run Cornwell/Scarpetta novels... love love LOVE that series and like Angelmom, to me Scarpetta always felt like a real person. To the real "Scarpetta", I hope her retirement is one of peace and enjoyment... many props to her for inspiring Patricia to create such a strong female character working in the science world.

Can you tell me the name of Cornwell's latest Scarpetta book...please. I've read all of the others and just love them. Also really like Grafton. Haven't read that one though. I doubt that Cornwell will drop Scarpetta...she makes her a lot of money...lol.

This was a wonderful post! It was great to read about the real woman, behind Cornwell's Scarpetta series!! I always loved her books!! I was also wondering the name of the last one, wasn't she supposed to be having one come out (either just did or is going to that is a Scarpetta).

I LOVE the Kay Scarpetta books! I think they are the first series of books I really started reading (then got into the Sue Grafton books later).

Fierro sounds like a real hoot - I'd love to meet her in person, or see her if she were to ever speak at something. What a neat lady.

as for Cornwell's books featuring Scarpetta, for me they went downhill from The Last Precinct onwards. i loved the first few in the series.

i do enjoy Cornwell's cookery book, Food to Die for.
