Thank heaven the uncareful rest of them don't shoot more of us and themselves, accidentally or on purpose.

Not directed at you, just bouncing off your post, but it seems that some (many?) of these "responsible" gun owners need to go take a basic gun safety class. Just because a gun is purchased legally, definitely doesn't mean that the person who uses/owns it is knowledgeable enough to use it responsibly.

JMO.

Yes I agree. I can also tell you that I was taught growing up that the gun was a dangerous weapon and if not handled with respect I would have been punished. I was taught to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS assume the gun was loaded and to never bring it in to the house without checking the chamber. If I had ever toyed with my dad's guns there would have been hell to pay. My grandson has an air pistol and he cannot bring it inside until he is sure is not loaded. I and his grandfather have taught him to always see beyond the target, to always carry it pointing toward the ground and many other safety measures.

I suppose many people assume that just because they own a gun they are 'responsible'. A person can be aware of all the rules and safety precautions and still behave in a reckless manner. That does not mean that responsible people should be held accountable for the irresponsible. Because some dumbaxx with a gun does something stupid is not fair to the vast majority of safe gun owners.

I want to add that I am also ex-military and have been on the rifle range many times. Safety first! The shooting in Wisconsin where the guy clearing his weapon accidentally shot his own son was absolute stupidity and lack of protocol.

As did the accidental shootings in Georgia and Oregon. And of course the gun shows. Stupidity, lack of protocol, human error.

Guns aren't going away. A lot of people are killed in car accidents. Let's post everytime someone gets killed in a car accident.

Regardless of gun politics, it is not a notable achievement to have had three shootings injuring five people at gun shows on "Gun Appreciation Day."

The gun shows are getting MUCH larger crowds due to the panic that is setting in, I am sure that is contributing to the problem.

Update: Man accidentally shoots himself at Des Moines gun show

This guy is a gun dealer. What happened to "always assume the weapon is loaded" gun safety? Thank God he was smart enough not to point it at anyone other than his hand.

The man told police he was trying to dry fire, or fire the gun without a round in it. He said the gun was unloaded when he checked it earlier in the week and he didn’t know who would have loaded it. Police found another loaded gun on the man’s table and unloaded it, according to the report.

This doesn't sound like a very smart guy. I doubt the gun was unloaded earlier in the week ike he said. Especially since the cops found another loaded gun in his possession. And at any rate he should have double and triple checked that the gun was unloaded before firing it. I don't care if you checked it earlier you shoul always check if its loaded the minute you pick up a gun.:banghead:
