wow, what is up with all of these mining accidents in the last few years. Were there alway this many and I just didn't hear about them??

There have been catastrophic mining disasters as long as there have been mines. With safety regulations and practices in place today, there are fewer...but mining is and always has been a dangerous business.

I am a believer in the old addage of "everything comes in threes". I do not have a clue as to the rationale behind it, but coincidence or not...it appears to happen this way at times.
