Tiny Baby Celebrates 1st Birthday

Hilea Maurer weighed just 12 ounces when doctors delivered her at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove a year ago.

On Tuesday, the doctors who saved Hilea's life helped her celebrate her 1st birthday.

Hospital staff gathered to sing their rendition of "Happy Birthday" to the birthday girl. She's only a year old, but as Padilla reported, she's already given her parents a lifetime of joy simply by beating the odds.

What I find so amazing about this story, is not only that she is alive, she has gained weight, but that she is also developing normally. Modern medicine has certainly come a long way. Did you look at that pic from shortly after her birth?
