Alissa McCommon, the fourth grade teacher recently charged with raping a 12-year-old, officially resigned her position last week.

The news came during a school board meeting last week.


“A few hours ago, I received a phone call from Ms. McCommon’s attorney. We have accepted her resignation,” said the school district’s attorney, Steve Shields. “She will no longer be with this school system in any form of a manner.”

Further, Shields explained the district is allowing law enforcement to handle the investigations into the sexual assaults which have been alleged.

Late last month, it was reported to the school board McCommon, who’d taught at Crestview Elementary School before joining Charger Academy this year, was engaged in inappropriate relationships with teenagers.

Covington police charged her with one count of rape of a child on Friday, Sept. 8. Additional charges may be forthcoming.

The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Covington Police Department and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office. While specific details of the case have not been made public due to its sensitive nature, law enforcement officials have confirmed that the investigation is centered around accusations of improper relationships between the teacher and students.

A Tennessee teacher is accused of sexually preying on students, abusing one of them in her home.

For now, Alissa McCommon, 38, faces a count of rape of a child, but investigators expect more charges.

“Multiple juvenile victims have come forth stating that they were befriended by their former teacher, McCommon, who began playing video games with them, and then further engaged with them through mobile phone social media apps, which led to her allegedly sending inappropriate photographs and requesting sexual relations with the victims,” the Covington Police Department wrote on Friday.

McCommon, who lives in the city of Covington, allegedly admitted communicating inappropriately with the students. She posted a $25,000 bond to get out of the Tipton County Jail, according to Memphis ABC affiliate WATN.

Her lawyers reportedly say she maintains her innocence.

“We believe that it’s borderline a witch hunt on social media and that’s frustrating to us,” lawyer Jere Mason said, according to WREG. “What we’re asking is that the public be patient and allow the justice system to do its job and not create further persecution on the alleged victims or on the family of the defendant.”

Interesting. Once again, teacher student relationship. I still advocate for a toll free number, no questions asked, for teachers to call if they develop feelings towards students. It happens, frequently. These people need treatment.

On Sept. 26, the police department learned McCommon was using a new phone number to contact a victim. She reportedly texted the victim a previously established code word to confirm they were alone, which she used to do before sending nude photographs through Snapchat, and sent multiple text messages to the victim indicating they would “regret doing this.”

McCommon, using the same number, also admitted to a sexual encounter with the victim.

“The actions of McCommon are not only appalling, but [Covington Police Department] is also concerned about this apparent violation of her bond conditions,” said Covington Police Chief Donna Turner. “Due to the nature of the communications, we are concerned others may have been contacted. We will continue to seek the revocation of McCommon’s bond, as well as aggressively prosecute the additional charges that continue to develop.”

McCommon was arrested Thursday at her Covington home and transported to the Tipton County jail. She has been charged with coercion of a witness, aggravated stalking, tampering with evidence, and harassment and is being held without bond until her court appearance.

Disturbing, not unlike Mary Kay Laterneau. She did the same thing, contacted her victim when she was out on bond or probation, and subsequently went to prison. It defies reason why anyone would do this, and completely destroy their life. Some sort of addiction?

“The evidence indicates McCommon texted a victim, using a specific code word known to the juvenile as a code word McCommon would previously utilize to confirm that the juvenile was alone, often before sending nude photographs on SnapChat,” police said in the statement.


“After using the code word September 28, the evidence indicates McCommon sent multiple text messages to victim indicating he would ‘regret doing this,’” police alleged in the statement.
