MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman’s body has been found in Haywood County, Tennessee after farmers say they were harvesting soybeans in a field.

A death investigation is underway in Haywood County after a body was located Tuesday night.

According to Haywood County Sheriff Billy Garrett, the body was found by farmers harvesting their soy bean field near Cobb Crossing and Highway 79.

Garrett says the coroners office was called to the scene and determined the body to be female. Her remains were sent to the Memphis Medical Examiners office to be positively identified and find out what caused her death.

The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office said Monday the body was positively identified by the Memphis Medical Examiner’s Office as 52-year-old Dana Davis, who was reported missing from her home on October 15.

The sheriff’s office says it has developed two persons of interest, and that one of them has already given a statement.

Local farmers found Davis’ body in a soybean crop less than a mile from her home on November 1.

Investigators are still waiting for an autopsy to determine the date and cause of her death.

According to the sheriff’s office, cell phone records revealed that Davis spoke to her mother and former boyfriend prior to her disappearance. The sheriff’s office says a GPS phone search warrant has been issued but investigators have not gotten the results at this time.

It was local farmers who discovered her body while harvesting a soybean crop three-tenths of a mile from Davis’ home.

Sheriff Garrett says an autopsy will hopefully provide some answers as to how and when she died.

Investigators believe Davis’ body was not in the field during their search efforts.
