Newport man arrested in death of his 6-month-old son
A Newport man was arrested on Friday on charges resulting from the death of his 6-month-old son in December, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Kasey Rathbone Sr., 23, of Newport, was arrested following a joint investigation by TBI and the Cocke County Sheriff's Office after his son, Kasey Rathbone Jr., was hospitalized on December 14.
Kasey died two days later, and on Thursday a Cocke County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Rathbone Sr. with one first degree murder, first degree felony murder and aggravated child abuse after authorities gathered information indicating that the infant died from injuries inflicted by his father.
