Tennessee man killed his wife and 6-year-old grandson before taking his own life on Saturday, police said.

Terry Majors, 64, was believed to have shot and killed his wife, Leigh Shea-Majors, 61, and his grandson, Ty Dodson, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department told reporters.

Police said his 4-year-old granddaughter was not injured and ran to a neighbor for help.

The three were found dead in a home in Hermitage, which is about 20 minutes from Nashville, around 7 p.m. om Saturday, Fox 17 reported.

The incident remained under investigation. No additional information, including a possible motive, has been released.

Ty Dodson
That prompted the little girl, Majors’ granddaughter, to run to a neighbor’s house for help, WKRN reported, though her uncle, Chase Dodson, said he believes Ty told his sister to run just prior to the slayings.

The children had been at their grandparents’ home for a routine visit prior to the shootings, Dodson said.

Sad because the life of a 6 year old was taken, but these stories happen on a weekly, almost daily basis these days here in the U.S.

What is going on? WTF it’s just one seemingly well adjusted happy family after another doing this. A 6 and 4 year old? How deep in despair are you in for anyone to do such a thing. A routine visit sounds like they were just visiting, so likely not in the g’parents custody. The parents and that poor sweet brave 4 year old.

Ty’s 4-year-old sister survived the shooting after escaping and running to a neighbor’s house to get help.

Chase Dodson, the boy’s uncle, told News 2, the local ABC affiliate, that Ty had told his sister to run.

Ty was described as a loving kid.

Boy was described as 'very smart, very curious'

“He was constantly smiling and wanting to take care of everyone. He has a little sister that’s in preschool this year, who he walks in and just makes sure that she would get to school and in the classroom okay,” Tabitha Collins, Ty’s former pre-school teacher, said. “Very smart, very curious. We always called him 'Ty the science guy,' because he loved the science center.”

Dodson said that the boy stayed with his mom and stepdad in Kentucky but would spend time with him and both sets of grandparents. Ty’s father, Dodson’s brother, died before the boy was born.

“I still just don’t want to believe he’s gone. It’s just ‘why?’ He’s so young,” Collins said.

Nashville police are investigating but have not released a motive for the murders.

It's too bad there is not some commonality in these various incidents.

Will the police ever report on why this happened? It's heartbreaking.

Taylor Cornelius, a 25-year-old Kentucky mother to two young children, broke into tears as she stood on her front porch and stared across the street at her neighbor's home.

Behind her, separated by a glass door, her 3-year-old son stared out at her with one of his tiny hands pressed flat against the glass.

Cornelius, her husband and her two young children live in a tidy home on a small cul-de-sac in Scottsville, a city of about 4,200 people just across the Tennessee-Kentucky border, in the house next door to where a young boy grew up.

"I remember seeing him on his stepdad's shoulder in the yard. I remember his whole family dressing up as scarecrows for Halloween," she said, tears streaming down her face. "Now, he's gone."

On Monday, Cornelius was among throngs in the small, close-knit community reeling after the weekend death of 6-year-old Ty Dodson, killed in what Metro Nashville police are calling an apparent murder-suicide. The boy, his grandmother and her husband were found dead at the couple's Nashville home Saturday night, police said.

Police said Terry Majors, 64, is thought to have fatally shot his wife, Leigh Shea-Majors, 61, at a home on Dockside Drive. Police said Terry Majors shot and killed his 6-year-old grandson before killing himself.

Terry Majors' 4-year-old granddaughter, the boy's sister, was uninjured and ran to a neighbor's home for help.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said a .357-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene.

As of Monday, a motive in the killings remained under investigation, Aaron said.

Majors has no significant criminal history in Davidson County.

"He's always been as good as he could be," Ty's 48-year-old aunt, Shannon Smalling of Scottsville, said of Terry Majors. "We never dreamed this could happen. It's just pure evil."

In addition to his younger sister, Ty is survived by his mother, Jennifer Carter, her partner, Danny Smalling, and three other older female siblings.

His funeral is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Goad Funeral Home in Scottsville. Visitation is there from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and beginning Thursday at 7 a.m.

Ty Dodson, 6

Ty and his sister were visiting their grandparents, who occasionally helped their Kentucky-based mother take care of them on weekends, Dodson said, WKRN reports.

The children’s father died before Ty was born, Dodson told the outlet.

Calling Majors a “very great guy,” neighbor Chely Wilson told WKRN that he “used to mow the yard — neighbors’ yards and things. Helped neighbors out. His wife was a very good person. I’m just as dumbfounded as everybody else as to why something like this had happened. I know that they loved their grandkids very, very much.”

Ty, who was known for his big smile, made an impression on everyone who knew him in his short life. Known as “Ty the Science Guy” because he loved the science center at his preschool, the boy was “very smart, very curious,” Tabitha Collins, Ty’s former pre-school teacher at Allen County Primary Center, told WKRN.

He always looked out for his little sister, she said.

“He has a little sister that’s in preschool this year, he walks in and just makes sure that she would get to school and the classroom okay,” Collins told the outlet.

I can’t describe how much I love Ty,” she said. “I still just don’t want to believe he’s gone. It’s just, ‘Why?’ He’s so young.”
