Interesting. Whenever I hear about a body being found in a National Park, State Park, etc. , my first thought is that it's a hiker who became lost and died of exposure. Several Months ago would've been around Winter, Spring or maybe even Fall and at 6,000 feet above sea level, it can get pretty cold. We'll have to get more information before we can know for sure if that's what happened. I won't try to make an identification until I receive more information.

The body has been ID'd as of this morning. I tried to find a thread for this individual, but had no luck.

A body found off-trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park this week has been identified as that of a 64-year-old Blount County man.

The remains of David J. Carver were discovered by a hiker Monday near Laurel Creek Road, between Townsend and Cades Cove, according to the National Park Service.

"The National Park Service Investigative Services Branch investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of 64-year-old David Junior Carver, whose remains were found in Great Smoky Mountains National Park earlier this month...

According to Carver’s family, he was an avid ginseng hunter and made money selling ginseng. He may have been ginseng hunting in the Great Smoky Mountains at the time of his death.

Anyone with information about Carver’s death, or can help investigators determine how Carver got to the park or what he was doing there, should contact investigators.

Callers may remain anonymous if they choose. Monetary rewards may be available to those who provide credible information that aids the investigation."

It's possible he was attacked by a large animal like a bear...

If not there have been several bodies found near the Smokies and the greater Gatlinburg/Knoxville area...Is there a Smokey Mountain serial killer??
