Deputies were called to a home on Carson Springs Road in Newport on October 29, 2013 where they found the victim, Richard Lane, lying in the gravel driveway near his truck with a gunshot wound...

Missy Lane... said she was handing the .38 caliber Rossi revolver to her husband when it accidentally went off, hitting him in the chest.

Cocke County deputies sent the case to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation who later determined there was evidence the shooting was intentional.

The wife of Richard Dale Lane, 42, of Bybee, was indicted by a Cocke County grand jury in the alleged murder of Lane, and arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Missy Daniella Lane, 40, of 3506 Glendale Road, in Bybee, is charged with second-degree murder and reckless homicide, Det. Jason Oury reported.

A Cocke County woman has been ordered to serve a two-year jail term in the shooting death of her husband...

The court said that will mean the defendant will be eligible for parole after she serves seven months in jail.
