I don't know how those juror's separated all those charges, it had to be difficult. At least they found him guilty of some. I just hope that all of those guys understand what they did was wrong and never take advantage of a women again. I also hope the judge punishes Brandon to the fullest extent of the law.

The plea deal Brandon E. Banks didn't take in Vanderbilt rape

June 24, 2017

Prosecutors offered Brandon E. Banks a 10-year prison sentence if he pleaded guilty and avoided a fourth trial in the rape of an unconscious Vanderbilt University student four years ago, Banks' lawyer said Saturday.

Banks didn't take it.

Going to trial was worth the risk of a longer prison term, defense lawyer Mark Scruggs said, because Banks hoped to avoid a lifetime position on the state's sex offender registry.

And on that part of the deal, the state wouldn't budge.

Banks was found guilty of aggravated rape in the case on Friday. State law says he'll face a minimum prison term of 15 years, and up to 25 years, at a sentencing hearing in August.

can anyone familar with this trial and the charges explain to me why he was charged for what Batey did? I get they were all there etc. but it seems that he was only found guilty of the two that he actually did. Why were the other charges brought. I have not followed too close so apologize if this is obvious.

Hi turaj. The five counts he was acquitted on were the charges related to criminal responsibility. A person is criminally responsible for an offense committed by another if that person aids the other in the commission of the offense.

During her closing argument, the prosecutor said the fact that Banks took 23 pictures of the rape was proof that he aided Batey and was criminally responsible even though he didn't physically participate in those specific acts.

The jury apparently disagreed.

There was no evidence that Brandon Vandenburg had physically participated in the rape, but he was found guilty on all six counts that had the criminal responsibility element, including Banks' act with the water bottle. Batey was also found guilty of being criminally responsible for Banks' offense.

But this jury didn't find Banks criminally responsible for Batey's actions.

thanks Great Than for that detailed explanation...I guess different juries different ideas...but clearly he should have gotten convicted on all to my way of thinking...but at least he will be spending some serious time in prison.

Brandon Banks sentenced to 15 years in Vanderbilt rape trial
Former Vanderbilt University football player Brandon Banks was sentenced to 15 years in prison at his sentencing in the 2013 rape of an unconscious female student.

Banks’ sentencing Friday follows a June jury conviction for one count each of aggravated rape and aggravated sexual battery. The rape count carries a 15-year minimum sentence.

no one following this anymore but that witness to mitigate the sentencing yesterday///I think the name was white is one of the worst $$$ chasing guys I have ever seen...trying to make a buck off each of these players and to top that off tried to contact the victim to cash in off her too. This guy should do some time himself for lack of any moral compass.
