Region of Peel– Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are seeking assistance from the public in a parental abduction investigation.

On July 29, 2018, the mother of a 5 year-old-girl named Tatianna Cuevas provided consent for her ex-husband, John Varga Cueves to take their child on a vacation to France and Germany. They were expected to return to Toronto on August 12, 2018 but they never arrived.

On August 14, 2018, police were notified that John Varga Cueves and their daughter did not return to Canada from their vacation. Since that time investigators have been working collaboratively with the RCMP and Interpol in attempts to locate Tatianna Cuevas and her father.

On August 21, 2018, a Canada Wide Warrant was issued for 39-year-old John Varga Cuevas for the criminal charge of Abduction in Contravention of a Court Order.

Tatianna Cuevas is described as female, black, 6 years old, 4’0”, 80 pounds, thin build, brown shoulder length curly hair and brown eyes.

John Varga Cueves is described as male, multi-racial, 5’8”, 160 pounds, light complexion, short black hair, brown eyes and possibly has a chinstrap goatee

Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance and are asking anyone who has been in contact with or has information on the whereabouts of John Varga Cuevas and Tatianna Cuevas, to call officers at 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at (905) 453–2121, ext. 2133. Police seek missing father, daughter in parental abduction case

A court order in place states that the girl must reside with the mother and the case was deemed an abduction when the father did not return with her, according to police.

Police say they are asking for the public’s help nearly a year later because all leads have been exhausted overseas.


Cueves is described as multi-racial with a light complexion, five-foot-eight, 160 pounds with short black hair, brown eyes and possibly has a chinstrap goatee.

Peel police are searching for a young girl who investigators say went on a trip to Europe with her father last summer and did not return to Canada.

If she is still with her father, Allen pleads for the father to return her home safely.

"This isn’t about him or me," she said. "She doesn’t deserve to have this be her story.”

Allen, a 30-year-old educational assistant, filed a report with Peel Regional Police on Aug. 14, 2018. Police issued a Canada-wide arrest for John Varga Cuevas, a 41-year-old from Kitchener, on Aug. 21 that year. He is wanted on the charge of abduction in contravention of a court order.

Det.-Const. Roy Fernandes confirmed Cuevas is also the subject of an international warrant with Interpol. The relationship between her father and I was emotionally and verbally abusive and a 5-year custody battle ensued. I was successful for full custody, but Tatianna’s father was still allowed to travel with her out of the country if he had an itinerary. The itinerary was not accurate and now my child has slipped through the cracks.​

What We Know​

There are very few leads at this time and the last known sighting of the pair was two years ago. Here is a timeline:

• July 29, 2018: for a planned two-week vacation to France and Germany.
• July 29 to August 4: Tatianna and John are spotted in the following locations:
  • Paris, France
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Dubai
  • Nigeria
• August 4, 2018: Tatianna and John are seen on video surveillance at the airport in Togo, West Africa. This is the last reported sighting of the two.
• August 12, 2018: Tatianna and John are expected to return home to Toronto, but don’t arrive at the airport as planned.
• August 14, 2018: Kristen Allen, Tatianna’s mom, contacts Peel Regional Police to report Tatianna’s abduction.
• August 18, 2018: Tatianna turns six years old.
• August 21, 2018: A Canada-wide warrant is issued for John Varga Cuevas for the criminal charge of contravention of a court order.

Cuevas is wanted by Peel Regional Police as well as and the RCMP. There is also a warrant for his arrest with Interpol, as well as an Interpol alert for Tatianna.

Tatianna was 40 pounds at the time of the abduction, and she is probably in the neighbourhood of 45-50 pounds now.''
