Captors demand release of prisoner in exchange for their 'guests'
SAN'A, Yemen - Armed tribesmen kidnapped an American couple near the Yemeni capital San'a on Monday, officials said.
Security officials, a taxi driver and tribesmen said the pair were seized as they were traveling west of the capital in al-Hudaydah province. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they aren't authorized to speak to the media.
The kidnappers are believed to be demanding the release of a jailed tribe member, a source told msnbc.com. A Yemeni security official told Reuters that the kidnapping was not thought to have any broader political motive.
