According to news sources Mr Trump have "expressed interest" to buy the island of Greenland. Donald Trump reportedly wants to purchase Greenland from Denmark
Neither the Greenlanders, nor the Danes, are interested in an affair. Lets hope the Danish Queen Margarethe will inform him st the strongest that Greenland, an autonomous country in her kingdom (queendom?) is not for sale, when Mr Trump makes a state visit to Denmark in September.

I did not know this. Well, I knew about Alaska, of course, but not about Greenland.

"But it wouldn’t be the first time a President has sought to buy Arctic land from another country: In 1867, President Andrew Johnson bought Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million.

It wouldn’t even be the first time the U.S. has tried to bag Greenland. Back in 1946, officials offered Denmark $100 million in gold bars for the world’s largest island, a Danish autonomous territory. U.S. officials at the time thought it was a “military necessity.”

President Trump Reportedly Wants to Buy Greenland. TIME Reported Similar Plans in 1947

Denmark should sell Greenland to the USA in a second.
Greenland is just a waste of money for Danish people. I mean there's nothing interesting there (except for fish and seals)
Honestly Denmark should have sold Greenland in 1946...

It could be a good choice for Greenlanders too, in my opinion. I mean USA is a great country, one of the 3 superpowers we have now in the world! We're not talking about Nigeria or Cambodia or other poor countries!
Anyways...in history how many times countries sold their territories or colonies to other countries? You can't even count how many times this happened...maybe 1,000,000 times. There's nothing strange.
(Greenland is already under American influence...I'm pretty sure they'll be Americans someday, whether they like it or not...)

Being a superpower doesn't mean our culture is superior. They have their own. They don't speak English. They speak Greenlandic which is a native language and Danish. They are mostly the Church of Denmark. They are primarily Inuit people and have a long, rich history.

The arrogance of many of my fellow Americans to assume anyone with their own culture and nation would want to be subsumed by us is astounding.

I had hoped we were moving away from colonial attitudes.

Anyhow, Trump is probably just posturing. China does a lot of rare earth trade with Greenland.

(As he doesn't like immigrants, what had he planned to do with the population of 56,000?)

Deport them to Mexico of course! ;)

Greenland is an autonomous part of Denmark, so not only would he require Danish approval, he would require Greenlandic approval as well. There is not a snowballs (excuse the expression) hope in hell of that happening.

I bet the Danes were weeping in the streets when they heard that, lol.

No doubt!

I liked your comment so much that it showed up twice. Tee hee. Really not sure what I did. Coffee has not kicked in yet.

It may be cute when a two-year-old throws a tantrum when they don't get their way, but there is nothing cute when a grown(?) man refuses to fulfilled a planned state visit because when the host country isn't interested in discussing his latest 'grand idea'. What about all the other subjects that they had planned to discuss?

At least Queen Margrethe have quickly decided to change her plans for September 2, when it was planned that she was to meet Mr Trump. She will instead give an open audience with the help of computers. Dronningen erstatter statsbesøg med offentlig audiens

Nothing important. Just international trade/business and NATO.

"The president was expected to participate in a series of bilateral meetings and meet with business leaders, and Ms. Frederiksen had underscored the importance of the session, calling the United States “Denmark’s most important and strongest ally in NATO.”"

Of course not. He just wants to go on there and strip the earth bare of all the rare minerals they have and then leave them in the dust. They'll be like Puerto Rico but without the tourism trade to fall back on.

And people actually think that's a good deal for them? Or maybe they don't care. It's a good deal for us so who gives a damn about them.

With all of the articles about climate change and escaping to places that will be inhabitable if one is wealthy, Greenland probably is a place for wealthy climate refugees
