Odessa Police responded to a shooting call at the 87th Street Apartments on Tuesday. When law enforcement arrived, they found three deceased victims: Jessica Rodriguez, 39, and her 9-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter.

A 15-year-old boy is accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother and her two younger siblings in a planned attack inside their West Texas apartment, according to police.

Investigators determined the teen had originally planned to target his ex-girlfriend at her school but changed course and went to her home instead, the release states. Police believe he entered the apartment and shot Rodriguez and her children before fleeing on foot.

Authorities recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the killings, per the release, and Odessa Police Chief Mike Gerke said at a Wednesday press briefing that it is still unclear how the teen procured the weapon.

Killing her entire family seems like a rather disproportionate response to being rejected.

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) - 15-year-old Damien Valdez has been certified to stand trial as an adult in Ector County following a hearing Tuesday, March 10, in County Court-at-Law Judge Brooke Hendricks’ courtroom.

Valdez faces one count of capital murder of multiple persons after investigators say he shot and killed his former girlfriend’s mother and two younger siblings in north Odessa in December.
