2 dead, officer and female injured after driver opened fire during traffic stop

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. off Pinn Road and near Westfield.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that this incident all started with a routine traffic stop. He said that the officer pulled over the truck for an unknown reason with three people inside. Chief McManus said that the conversation between the driver and officer was very casual, but at some point, the driver pulled out a gun and opened fire on the officer.

The officer was hit in the hand, but managed to return fire while he was backing up, hitting the male driver and passenger, as well as a female passenger. The two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger was shot in the upper chest and was taken to the hospital. No word on her condition.

Two dead after San Antonio police officer shot in hand exchanged gunfire with suspects, chief says

The officer, a five-year veteran with the department, conducted a traffic stop on a pickup occupied by three people in the 2300 block of Pinn Road.

McManus said the officer appeared to have a “casual conversation” with the driver for a few minutes until the driver pulled a gun and fired at the officer, striking him once in the hand and once on his radio.

The officer opened fire as he retreated backward, McManus said, striking and killing the driver and the passenger, both men believed to be in their 20s.

I am beginning to feel like there is no longer such thing as a "routine traffic stop."

Who would want to be a police officer? They must be running on adrenaline each time they do a routine traffic stop. Their health must eventually suffer.

SAPD: Passenger opened fire on police officer during West Side shootout

Police said the truck came to a stop and Officer Sauvage made contact with the occupants — Sammie Barbosa, 33, the driver, and Alex Garcia, 25, the front seat passenger. When the officer opened the driver’s door, Garcia fired a handgun, according to police.

Through the investigation, police said an occupant in the vehicle was told to give the handgun to Garcia, who then fired at Officer Sauvage, striking him.

I don’t even know where to begin to post the articles about these San Antonio officer involved shootings. There is this article: but I think there are even more coming out now even as I post. I can’t find threads for some of these incidents. So I’m just gonna drop it here for now until I can get the updates in my head. What is going on in San Antonio?
San Antonio records four fatal shootings involving police in a week's span

There is new eyewitness video that shows the aftermath of a shooting involving a San Antonio Police Officer. Police say the officer shot and killed two men after he was shot in the hand.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the officer could have been killed.

"The officer is very lucky to be alive," he said.

"Through the investigation it was determined that an occupant in the vehicle was told to give the handgun to Alex Anthony Garcia (front passenger) who then fired the gun at Officer Sauvage, striking him," SAPD said in an update Sunday. "This is all the information we are releasing at this time."

KENS 5 spoke to a witness who saw happened on the city's west side at Pinn Road and Westfield. The witness didn't want to appear on camera but called 911.

"Your guy just got shot," she said. "There is an active shooting right now. I was concerned for the policeman. He was alone."

The woman said her view on police has changed after witnessing what happened.

"I thought, 'these guys put their lives on the line for me and everybody else,'" she said.

Police couldn't said multiple shots were fired, but they aren't sure yet how many.

"Nobody won here," the witness said. "Nobody."
