Ava Moore was kayaking when she was hit by a woman riding a jetski (with another woman on board). The woman operating the jetski fled, while the passenger stayed behind to talk to police. RIP, Ava. The police and game wardens are searching for the woman who was operating the jetski.

Grapevine Police Department Investigate Fatality, Hit and Run

GRAPEVINE – Texas Game Wardens are continuing the investigation into the death of Ava Moore, 18, at Lake Grapevine, which occurred the evening of May 25. Preliminary details indicate a personal watercraft (PWC) with two female occupants struck and killed the victim.

The passenger remained on scene to be interviewed by first responders, while the operator fled with an adult male. The operator and the man then struck a vehicle while leaving the area. Grapevine Police Department is investigating the related automotive hit and run incident while Texas Game Wardens lead the water fatality investigation.

Investigators are actively looking for both the PWC operator and the driver of the vehicle. If anyone has information regarding either suspect, please contact Grapevine Police detectives at [email protected]. (A photo of the PWC operator is shown in this post.)

Photo - Note that this is the suspect they are trying to identify, not the victim:

From the photo, the suspect has a tattoo on her left shoulder that says, "Sé fuerte y valiente J 1:9" (a bible quote, "be strong and brave," in Spanish). 🫤 There also appears to be a butterfly on her upper abdomen, and possibly another tattoo above it on her side that isn't fully visible. The police are sharing this photo on social media and it's in several news articles, so hopefully the suspect will be identified soon.

I don't understand why the jetski passenger hasn't named her...?
I wonder that, too. It's not 100% clear that the passenger didn't name her (I didn't see any articles that specifically said that, just that she was talking to the police and that the police were looking for the operator - but seems like there are a couple of possibilities, all MOO:

-Passenger didn't know her, or didn't know her full name, and just met her out on the water and took a ride
-Passenger knows her and isn't talking
-Passenger knows her and shared her name, but for some reason the police aren't publicly announcing that they know who she is yet (but that they don't know where she is)

My guess is that they are friends, and that the passenger just didn't get away in time. (MOO)

Maybe LE are giving the woman a chance to turn herself in, rather than making it a public manhunt.

I hope she turns herself in - and the man she fled with too. He crashed into another vehicle as they left? So 2 hit and runs. I am going to assume alcohol and/or other drugs were involved, maybe o9nce they've sobered up they'll come forward. Tragic for Ava and her loved ones.

My heart breaks for Ava's loved ones.

MOO The Texas Game Wardens and Local LE have been forthcoming with information and shared the alleged perp's picture quickly. I'm feeling confident the jet ski driver will be identified soon (or perhaps already has but LE are still looking to locate her/aren't ready to share her name yet). MOO

Rest in peace, Ava. May there be justice for this awful tragedy.

A video taken by witnesses at the scene is posted on IG, they have the plate number of the Nissan Rogue which fled the scene. BUI is going to be the cause in this tragic death, MOO.

My thoughts are with Ava’s family, so senseless and preventable.

Update this morning on the Grapevine PD Facebook page:

Texas Game Wardens and the Grapevine Police Department have Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, the suspect tied to the death of Ava Moore in custody. We are thankful for the help of fellow law enforcement officers from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. More details will be available later.

Of course, nearly 18 hours after the accident so drug / alcohol testing may not be helpful.

At least she has been arrested. It will be interesting to see what charges she gets.

As the passenger got off to help the injured kayaker, I suppose DG is going to claim she went to get help and alert authorities.

Is there a fatality hit-and-run charge that could apply here?

It's a heartbreaking situation and I'm so sad for the families involved, particularly Ava's.

There was at least one person who sprang into action to help Ava after the accident. In the spirit of Mr. Rogers telling us to "look for the helpers," I think it is good for our hearts to know and share that these people are out there:

Lisa Scrabeck, who was at the lake, said she helped render aid to Moore after she was pulled ashore. She checked for a pulse and heartbeat and confirmed that Moore was wearing a life jacket, which was removed before CPR began.

"She didn't suffer in agony," Scrabeck told CBS News Texas. "It's very tragic, and I extend my deepest condolences to the family. I can't imagine being the parents of this young girl. But one thing I can say is that she didn't suffer from the moment I saw her."

Thank you, Lisa.

I see that LS had been referred to as the passenger on the jet ski.

Has it been confirmed she was a passenger? Did she know the driver?

The way this paragraph reads, LS was just at the lake and rendered aid.

Was the suspect aware of the extent of the victim's injuries or that they were fatal before she fled the scene? Had CPR begun yet when she left? Did she abandon her jet ski at the scene? I suspect answer is yes to all these questions, which imo, points to her guilt and just overall makes her look bad. Wonder what the extent of damage was to the jet ski, especially if she just left it behind. And if either jet ski rider was also injured.
