TX TX - Benjamin "Ben" Lund, 19, Killeen, 13 June 2005

  • #21
I was at Ft Hood in the mid to late 70's. There is land North of Harker Heights, between the last homes and Belton Lake (N Nolan Road area) as well as Stillhouse Lake to the South. There used to be a lot of empty land South of Harker Heights back in the day and you would almost have to trip over a body to discover it, plus there were wild dogs back there. Looking at Google maps and knowing what I remember of landmarks, there still appears to be a lot of empty land once you get out of the Harker Heights/Killeen area, and that's not counting the training range on Ft Hood. One would not have to travel very far or be very creative to hide a body in that area.

That's what I am afraid of. This poor family has been searching for answers for 10 years. Terrible to think he could be very close to where he was last seen, yet still unfound 10 years later

I live in Temple and grew up in Copperas Cove. How am I just now finding out about him? Has he been found? I can't find any info on him.

Back in the day, the police departments in the area were pretty small and had a different focus. Take Harker Heights in 1976, a few homes, one small PD office and 5 chase cars. Speed limit went from 55 to 35 in 20 feet. Fine was $500.00 or three days in jail for just 1 mph over the speed limit. If you got stopped for a broken tail light and you showed them it was not broken, they would break it for you with a nightstick. Different era.

There is a lot of empty desolate land in the military range areas. Back in my day there were also some wild dog packs roaming the empty land areas. If you were a dirt bike rider you had to watch out for them as well as those 15ft deep washes formed by erosion.
